Art Deco

Jordan Fink Photography

I finally got around to visiting The Strand Theater this weekend and I must say, I was impressed!  It was a full house and while the theater still drips with flashy art deco decor reminiscent of 1935, the crowd was young and had an energetic vibe.  I couldn't get over how original the venue felt, despite it's recent million dollar renovations.  There's nothing like going to a theater with a lit marquis and enjoying a cocktail while you watch your film.  If you get there early enough, you can also enjoy a complementary theater pipe organ performance.

My visit left me dreaming of art deco....geometric shapes, bold patterns, shiny fixtures and ornate details.

50th Anniversary ~ Breakfast at Tiffany's ~

This year, we celebrate the 50th anniversary of the beloved film, "Breakfast at Tiffany's" and I know many of you love this film just as much as I do! It offers romance, wit, humor, style and of course it's fun-loving main character, Holly Golightly, a free spirit who refuses to settle for anything less than perfection.  It's hard not to relate to her on some level.  Plus, who doesn't love a lady who drinks milk from a wine glass?

The other thing this movie gives us is fashion.  Oh the fashion! I think I could watch this film on mute and still enjoy it.  The classic "little black dress" was born from this film and the leading lady Audrey Hepburn will forever be loved and remembered as a style icon.

Tonight I'm sneaking off to a showing of the film at a local and uber-stylish historical theater.  There's nothing like seeing this on the big screen.  Maybe I'll see some of you there!

So, of course now I have the dilemma of what to wear.....

Wouldn't it be nice to slip into one of these?  An ode to the little black dress...

Have a lovely weekend fellow peaches!

Weight Loss Breakfast

So, I am in love. Basically.  This is my new favorite breakfast since Lesley  shared it on her blog a few months ago and I FINALLY decided to try it.  Here's the recipe prepared to my taste:

1/3 cup 0% fat Greek yogurt
1 tbs. organic peanut butter
1 tbs. peach preserves
1 tbs. shredded coconut
1/2 tsp. vanilla extract
sprinkle cinnamon to taste

The yogurt alone gives you almost 10g of protein to start your day and I promise you will stay full until lunch.  And by the way, if you're a WW fan, it's 6 points.

Your Southern Peach,

Amy

Creative Gift Adornment

A few days ago, I stumbled upon these colorful wall decals by Lot 26 Studio.  While they're not really my taste for wall decor, I found them to be perfect little adornments for gifts and cards!  I also added a pom pom in the middle of each flower for extra color.  I bought two (20 count) packs on sale for $2.50 each, which was a steal compared to their retail price of $25.00!

I love giving things new life and for that price, I couldn't resist.

Winter Florals

How was your weekend friends?  Mine was uneventful but productive.  We fixed a few odds and ends around the house and I'm still working on cleaning out closets.  I'm close to being done (for now)!

I wanted to share this photo with you of some flowers I arranged a few weeks ago.  The color mix is unexpected but still so gorgeous.  I thought it was perfect for a Monday.

Thank you for stopping by today.  I'm glad you're here.

Belle of the Ball

I missed the actual Golden Globes but you know I never miss a fashion recap!  Did anyone notice who was wearing one of my top picks?  None other than Catherine herself!  Doesn't she look divine?

My blogger friend Kate and I both thought Catherine looked like a modern day Scarlett O'Hara.  Fiddle-dee-dee! Kate has a side by side comparison of Catherine and Scarlett on her blog Southern Belle Simple.  If you have a free minute this weekend, stop over and say hi to her.  She is such a doll and a true southern belle, always ladylike and gracious.

Bright Stripes

I ordered this dress last week in anticipation of warmer weather.  Don't you just love the colorful stripes? Wanna see more?

Happy Birthday Dolly Parton

For those of you who know me, I'm a huge Dolly Parton fan.  Huge.  I can't think of any star I'd rather meet. I even tried to hunt her down during my last trip to Nashville.

I grew up listening to her music but I really fell in love with her after reading this book several years ago.  In 2008, I had tickets to see her in concert and she postponed the show due to back problems.  As fate would have it, she rescheduled the show during my trip to Tokyo.  Six months later, she was scheduled to play in Atlanta again and it just so happened that I was at a family wedding that weekend in St. Louis.

I'm still waiting for the day I get to see her live.  Until then, Happy Birthday Dolly!  You're a true style icon, a great business woman and a walking example of a "diamond in a rhinestone world."

I'm gonna celebrate this week by watching Steel Magnolias and I'll definitely be sporting my Dolly Tshirt today.

Going Back

This is the time of year that everyone is motivated to purge, clean closets and rid themselves of burdensome material things that no longer serve them.  I've been doing the same around here and have already tackled the master vanity, my accessories drawer and my nightstand.  During my pregnancy last year, I did some SERIOUS nesting, but there are still some places that I need to revisit such as my closet.  My dreaded closet.

In my "previous life" before children, I worked as an advertising Account Executive and later a Medical Sales Representative and because of that, I have a closet full of suits, blazers, blouses and slacks that now just sit there....for four years now.....collecting dust.

For some reason I've had a difficult time "letting go" of these items because they represent a life (and career) that I was actually pretty good at!  So for the past few years, I've just ignored them and each time I go to clean out my closet, I tell myself "not yet."

A few weeks ago, I stood in my closet just staring at my "previous life" and asked myself why I felt the need to hold onto these things.  A dozen thoughts raced through my head, like the idea of returning to work outside the home one day, the amount of money I spent on each piece, the confidence a suit gave me while pitching an important client and so on.

Then it hit me.  I realized that letting go of these clothes was symbolic of me completely embracing my current role.  Since I put my career on hold, I've always told myself "I can always go back.  It will be right there waiting for me, along with my wardrobe."

The more I sat there and thought about it, the more I realized that I don't want to "go back."  I want to move forward.  I don't know what the future holds for me career wise and that's both exciting and scary, but right now, I'm happy.  I wear jeans to work,  I have the best boss in the world, everyday is a new challenge, I love what I do and I'm actually really, really good at it.  The best part about where I'm at right now is that I can go any direction I choose.  I may explore off the beaten path or try new things and fail, but I know I'm not going "back."

And so this week, I'm dry cleaning my "past life" and donating it to Dress for Success.  Besides, my husband reminded me that if I ever did "go back," I'd probably want all new things anyways.  He's probably right.

By the end of this closet purge, I'm hoping my space will look something like one of these.

Well, not quite but here's to moving forward or sideways or any other direction other than back!
