Jett turns 2

I'm taking a break from the Masters to celebrate Jett's second birthday! My Jetty. My Jett-bug. He's such a special little guy. He's captivating. He's intense. He's hilarious. He's independent. He's the one that keeps me on my toes every single second of every single day.

I turn around for a moment and he steals my lunch...

Or turn my head to watch Luke at bat and he's covered in red Georgia clay...

Or gives me his "mean" face when I'm trying to capture a sweet picture...

But he's got a zest for life like no other. He woke up a few days ago from his nap saying, "I wan' go! I wan' go!' He loves to go. Go, go, go. He isn't short on personality, that I know for sure. There are days when I just ask him, "Jett, where did you come from?"

And he loves to the greatest of extremes with big bear hugs and sweet kisses. He's quite amazing and some days I just look at him and cannot believe that God trusted me to be his mother. That I could love him, protect him and teach him every single day.

Masters Party

Hi fellow peaches! How was your weekend? Mine flew right by without even stopping to say hello! I spent much of Saturday running errands, doing laundry and working in the yard. I've been dividing and moving some day lilies around and I swear those things are multiplying while I sleep!

We also celebrated Jett's birthday (again) with friends and family yesterday while we watched the Masters. I must admit this birthday kinda snuck up on me but we managed to have a fun little get together and some yummy green cupcakes.

For the past several years, much of our family has just so happened to gather at our house to watch the final round of the Masters so this year my sister and I decided to make it more of a tradition rather than a coincidence. Below, you can see a sample of our menu and I must say my first attempt at homemade pimento cheese was a success. I will be sharing the recipe later this week. I'm sorry I didn't get more photos of our spread but as soon as we got home from church and got the food prepared, we had a hungry crowd ready to enjoy it all!

I also couldn't resist sharing a few "cleaner" shots of the birthday boy before he headed off to bed. Isn't he the cutest?

It's a Boy!

Happy 1st Birthday to my son Jett. I'll never forget the day I met you and how thankful I was that you made a great first impression on me by living up to your name. After walking the halls of the hospital for a few hours, the doctor had to literally sprint across the street to "catch" you. You've kept us on our toes ever since.

I love you so, so, so much.

Yesterday, I got an unexpected email about a soiree going on at one of my favorite bloggers Camille Styles. To my surprise, I was the inspiration for this gorgeous party! Today is the last day I'll be 33. I'm celebrating another birthday tomorrow and I'm okay with it. Coincidentally, as of today, I've worked out 33 days in a row. Don't ask. It's called determination to lose the last several pounds of baby weight before my "baby" turns one next month and a harmless challenge from my husband, which I am winning.

Here are 33 things I plan on doing this weekend in celebration of my birthday.

1. Sleep in

2. Kiss my husband

3. Attend Luke's first ever T-ball game

4. Probably cry watching him

5. Hit the Bruster's afterwards

6. Snuggle my baby, Jett

7. Get a pedicure

8. Welcome a new season with a spring equinox yoga class

9. See my favorite yogis

10. Take a long hot shower...without interruptions

11. Attend church for the 2nd Sunday of Lent

12. Pray Jett doesn't give the nursery volunteers a hard time

13. Visit my dermatologist

14. Ask her why it looks like someone dragged a rake across my forehead

15. Indulge in a full fat Latte afterwards

16. Enjoy a birthday celebration cookout hosted by my in-laws

17. Relax in their hammock

18. Sip a refreshing cocktail in the hammock

19. Snuggle Jett in hammock

20. Hug my mom

21. Keep her from crying as she recollects my birth

22. Hug my older sister and Skype little sis

23. Watch the kids throw some fishing poles into the pond

24. Take lots of photos

25. Dinner at Ormsby's with best friends

26. Try their hot boiled peanuts

27. Try their pimento cheese and corn fritters

Happy Birthday Dolly Parton

For those of you who know me, I'm a huge Dolly Parton fan. Huge. I can't think of any star I'd rather meet. I even tried to hunt her down during my last trip to Nashville.

I grew up listening to her music but I really fell in love with her after reading this book several years ago. In 2008, I had tickets to see her in concert and she postponed the show due to back problems. As fate would have it, she rescheduled the show during my trip to Tokyo. Six months later, she was scheduled to play in Atlanta again and it just so happened that I was at a family wedding that weekend in St. Louis.

I'm still waiting for the day I get to see her live. Until then, Happy Birthday Dolly! You're a true style icon, a great business woman and a walking example of a "diamond in a rhinestone world."

I'm gonna celebrate this week by watching Steel Magnolias and I'll definitely be sporting my Dolly Tshirt today.

Construction Birthday Party

I pulled off my first "big" birthday party this past weekend. I must admit I was a little anxious about hosting twenty kids but it went off without a hitch. Here's how it happened.

This year my oldest son continually asked for a party "with ALL his friends." (What can I say, he takes after his parents.) Can you blame him? Who really wants to celebrate their birthday alone anyways? When I asked him what kind of party he wanted, he suggested a construction theme without hesitation and so the party planning begun. I got a LOT of inspiration online from fellow bloggers like Juicy Bits and Birthday Girl Blog and especially The Smith Team for which I am very grateful. I'm sharing my photos in hopes that I can return that favor for someone else out there! Here we go...

To begin, I sent out this Evite.

Now, for the photos...

We had these saw horses at home and they made perfect props.

I used bright orange construction fencing to cover the tables. You can find it at your local home improvement store.

The Work Zone - I made the signs with poster board and some scrap booking paper I had laying around downstairs. I also bought the pre-cut letters at Learning Express. Easy and Inexpensive!

Styrofoam Bricks which I spray painted a rust color.

The kids used plastic hammers to "nail" the golf tees into the bricks. This was a HUGE hit. I wish I would have had more bricks, tees and hammers but the kids were great about sharing.
