Planning for the Future

I know we're all ready to break out the cable knit sweaters and boots but I can't forget about those first moments of spring when bright colored blooms begin to show signs of warmer days.  Every spring I kick myself for not planting more "early bloomers" in the fall season.

Now is the perfect time to plan for the future and stock up on spring blooming bulbs like daffodil, tulips, crocus and hyacinth.  I've been a busy girl the past few weeks transferring, dividing and gifting everything from iris, daylilies, gladiola and black-eyed susan.  I finally have room to expand the garden and can't wait to throw in some more spring bloomers.

Now I'm already looking forward to spring!  Who can resist such gorgeous color?

  1. I really need to add this to my to-do list! The fall always seems to get so busy, but then you miss having color in your yard in Spring! Thanks for the reminder!

  2. Good morning from Los Angeles!

I cannot wait to get wrist-deep in the garden of our new home. These pictures give me such a jolt of inspiration of what can be! Take care and have a lovely day.

    Warmly,

  3. I've got "divide bulbs" at the top of my garden chalkboard in my kitchen. Fingers crossed Jeff & I get around to actually doing it before it's too late. Right now I've got a patio full of ornamental cabbage & kale, snapdragons, needlepoint ivy, violas, and pansies to plant.

Oh, and the moles/squirrels/vermin of Myers Park ate dang near every single crocus & hyacinth bulb I planted last year. Chicken wire & poison doesn't work. Here's hoping my pistol & a fast trigger finger will though...

  4. Ally,

Oh no, those darn squirrels! Fortunately, they don't bother my flowers (too much) but they sure do make hogs of themselves on my bird feeders!

Your collection on your patio sounds like it gonna be gorgeous! Send me a pic when you have it in. Hope the weather is good this weekend for some prime gardening time.

  5. I love this post! You are right - now is the perfect time to stalk up. It's so easy to forget about the seasons to come when we're so caught up in the 'now'. Thank you for your motivation! I was planning on doing some gardening this weekend, so I might head to the nursery now to see which spring flowers they have!

    xx
