Indian Cuisine-Butter Chicken

Yes, I know this is a far cry from the typical southern cuisine you might expect to find here on YSP but hang tight....it's not as hard as it looks and it's absolutely delicious!

My husband and I had the pleasure of attending a dinner party a few years ago where the hostess served a delicious Indian meal that was reflective of her heritage and I've been wanting to attempt Indian cuisine ever since.  The flavors are so bold and exotic!

A friend of mine is the owner/operator of her own company called Modern Day Masala.  What an amazing story she has.  I love when women create opportunities for themselves!  In short, Modern Day Masala is a line of organic Indian spice blends that are sold along with an attached recipe card which promises to deliver a delicious Indian meal in less than 30 minutes.  Simple, right?

For the above recipe, I used the butter chicken blend and it was so very, very easy.  I had it ready in no time since the spices were already ground and mixed for me, one of the essentials in mastering Indian cuisine!  (I think.)  I paired this flavorful dish with a simple steamed broccoli which was the perfect compliment.  My husband absolutely loved it.  I think this dish would be so impressive for a dinner party, accompanied by some white wine!

Overall, my first attempt at Indian food was a great one and I can't wait to try more of Modern Day Masala's spice blends.

I'm wondering, have you ever cooked Indian food?

If you're interested in purchasing Modern Day Masala products, you can find them sold here or via their website.  I found some at my local Whole Foods!

See, that was easy right?

  2. I am going to try this recipe this weekend. Wyck had some excellent Indian food in NYC one time and I've been wanting to try to cook some ever since. I cooked a vindaloo once long ago (which was actually pretty good), but I've not cooked Indian since then. That was probably almost 20 years ago. :)

I notice the recipe on her site calls for boneless breasts cut into strips, but your picture looks like you might have varied that? Please tell me what you used.

  5. Meg,

I did use boneless, skinless chicken breast but I cut them into strips a little smaller. (About 6 per breast.) I'm always paranoid about things cooking through, especially chicken.

    Hope this helps,

    Amy

  6. I love Indian food! I think it might just be my favorite type of cuisine. Have you tried lamb koorma? It's seriously divine. So, so good. I've made that a few times (although it's always better at a real Indian restaurant). Your butter chicken looks yummy:)
