Life at its Finest
This week has been a sink or swim kinda week for me. I have a lot of exciting things going on that I can't wait to share with y'all! I also registered my oldest, Luke, for kindergarten this week which did a number on me. How is he going to elementary school already? I also became an aunt again on Monday! My first nephew. I always feel so privileged holding a newborn. Just the thought of their little new soul astonishes me! And in usual fashion, you can see I'm always playing with food.
Hope y'all have great weekend!
The Fab Flamingo
All hail the pink flamingo! They're so fun and festive. After featuring my flamingo inspired Sunday Best, I couldn't resist the urge to share these fabulous finds with you too.
These flamingo sheets from The Company Store are on my wish list for summertime. Talk about waking up with a smile on your face!
Meet me in the Garden
Hi fellow peaches! I'm so excited to introduce a new series to you called, "Meet me in the Garden."
I am definitely a beginning gardener. Anything you see on this blog from my garden, you can certainly do too! This series is intended to be motivating and I really hope that those of you with a green thumb will weigh in with your expertise too. I know you're out there!
I also love the idea of keeping dibs on my garden's transformation through the years. However, you may see some "inspiration" photos in this series, just for good measure.
Most of my experience is with flowers but I hope to take the plunge into vegetable gardening this year using the "New Square Foot Gardening
" method. Have any of you tried this? If so, I'm all ears for tips and suggestions!
Today I'm highlighting my tulips which just finished blooming. I planted them last fall in hopes of some bright spring color. I simply threw the bulbs in with some potting soil using a simple bulb planter
and wa-la! My only regret is that I didn't plant more.
What's your favorite spring bloom?
Life at its Finest
My St. Patrick's Day celebrations used to consist of green beer. Now it consists of green donuts.
After months of contemplation, my husband finally took the plunge! I've yet to get my hands on it.
While hubs shopped for iPad accessories at Best Buy, the boys and I terrorized shoppers.
Sweet little moments on the front porch with this articulate guy. They're pretty awesome.
Since no one in my house was gonna bake me cupcakes, I turned to my good friend Gigi and she did not disappoint. Luke did serenade me with "Happy Birthday" in the middle of the store though.
Happy Weekend fellow peaches!
Spring Fling with Style
Spring is officially here! Do you love this bright season of new beginnings as much as I do? I can't help but gravitate towards brighter colors and open toe shoes. I got my first pedicure on my birthday and am now sporting this bright shade. Thank you again for all the birthday wishes! It made me smile all day long.
How are you welcoming spring?
Happy Birthday to me!
We all have birthdays. Some of us are more accepting of them than others. I'm usually okay with them, really, I am.
I'm convincing you, right?
The truth is the past few years of my early thirties have brought me a lot of clarity. I spent so much of my twenties wondering who I would become, worrying about the future and quite frankly, living a very self indulgent lifestyle.
My early thirties forced me to give up some of those self indulgent ways and much of that had to do with becoming a wife and mother. It was a hard transition but it was the best thing to ever happen to me. It required me to be a better person. There was no other option. I also put my career on hold, which tinkered with my confidence. But with each passing year, my confidence in that decision and as a mother grows. When I look back on my younger self, the transformation is really quite remarkable. Do any of you ever feel this way when you reflect on the last 5, 10, 15 years of your life?
There are other light-bulb moments of my early thirties such as learning to let go of things, like the unproductive and anxious thoughts that haunted my younger years. They were like poison to me.
And then there's wisdom. Precious, valuable wisdom. I still have a long way to go with this one but I'm recognizing that each year grants me a little bit more. I realize now that perfection is not reality and it's okay that I don't have all the answers. I'm learning to admit when I'm wrong, say I'm sorry and that changing my mind is not a sign of weakness.
And then there's that huge thing we women refer to as "doing it all." Yes, I've pondered over this one so many times. Is it possible? Is it necessary? My conclusion. Who cares? My thirties have been a time of just being. Being present, being happy and listening to myself. I've finally convinced myself it's okay to just be. That idea of proving myself is gone. Once I let go of self doubt and judgment, I found a happy and grateful heart capable of so much more than I ever imagined in my younger years.
I turn 35 today, just in case you were wondering. And yes, I still have a few self indulgent bones left in my body so I'll be spending the first half of the day doing "me" things and the later part of the day with the family hanging out at home. It's really a great place to be.

Life at its Finest
I know, I know. I should have come up with a clever "green" post for you. My mother-in-law even emailed me a recipe for a yummy Irish soda bread and I dropped the ball. Next year, I promise. I'll make it happen.
For now, you just have to take a glimpse at my everyday "Life at it's Finest." Yes, it's a fine life but quite busy these days. I've volunteered my time for a few things which is great...when you have a lot of spare time. Don't worry. I'll make it happen. Anyone else out there thrive under pressure?
I love playing with food. Can you tell? This was one of Luke's afternoon snacks. Gotta admit, I kinda wanted one too.
A homemade gift from a friend who I absolutely adore. I love those special people that come into your life unexpectedly. One of life's best surprises!
Post-its and the Notes app on my iPhone are the only thing keeping me afloat these days.
But I always find time to cook. I experimented with some Meyer lemons this week. You'll hear more about it in the future, I promise.
Happy St. Patrick's Day fellow peaches! I hope you're wearing the finest shade of green today.
Asian Inspired Salad
I love salads but a lot of times I fail to branch out in my selections. I gravitate towards spinach, feta, strawberry, onion, walnut. You know that old go-to.
This asian inspired salad was just what I needed to get out of my salad rut. It's full of flavors and textures and topped with my favorite ginger dressing which I find chillin' in the produce section.
Aren't the colors gorgeous? Talk about eating with all five senses.
Ingredients:
1/3 grilled chopped chicken (use deli or precooked to save time!)
1 cup arugula, washed
1 cup shredded cabbage, washed
1/3 cup shredded carrots
1/4 red onion, sliced
1/4 shelled edamame
1/3 cup cooked rice noodles
several slices seedless mandarin oranges
2 tbs. chopped walnuts
2 tbs. ginger salad dressing
I'm guessing y'all know how to assemble a salad so I'll spare you instructions. I think the photo is pretty self explanatory. I hope you like it!
Joie de vivre
Luke's preschool is doing international week and today just happens to be their day to study France. I thought it would be fitting for me to head to my local French cafe to meet a friend for lunch and pick up a few macaroons to take home to the boys.
I'm feeling a bit (maybe a lot) over committed right now so this is just what I need to regroup. Just hoping we can score a table next to the cozy fireplace to escape today's wet forecast.
How cute is this Etsy shop by the way? Hope your day is magnifique!
