Resolutions

Resolution: A course of action determined or decided on.

Ughhhh.... just the sound of it is so rigid and harsh.  It's so resolute.  Goals yes....Resolutions no.

I've never been a huge fan of resolutions because as much as I love my daily life to have routine, order and some sense of agenda, I prefer my life in general to be lived with more of an intuitive mindset.  Resolutions are so contradictory to living in the present and doing what I FEEL is right for me in the moment.

So, here's what I'm doing for 2011. Instead of making some crazy resolution that I will most likely break by Valentines Day, I'm going to focus on doing more of the things that make me happy.

More of these in 2011 please.....

What are your thoughts on resolutions?  Do you make them?  Is there anything in particular that you want to make more time for in 2011?

Christmas Surprises

Christmas was filled with surprises this year.....BIG, HUGE surprises.  Santa himself made a dashing appearance which my husband unfortunately missed since he was taking out the trash.  Oh well, maybe next year.

Our day was filled with family, food, love and laughter.  The boys got their fill of trucks, legos, books and board games.  In fact, my older son said during his bedtime prayer, "Thank you Jesus for filling Santa's sleigh with presents."  So sweet.

To top it off, mother nature graced us with a true white Christmas here in Georgia, something we have not seen in decades!

And one more thing.  I must have been a very good girl in 2010 because I'm typing from my new MacBook Pro, a (much needed) gift from my sweet, sweet, sweet husband.  My six year old laptop with only 80 GB was on the skids and not supporting my photography.

And the photos you see,  well, they were taken with my new Canon T2i, a huge surprise from my inlaws.   I'm still not sure what I did in 2010 to deserve such generous gifts, but I am truly grateful and still somewhat in shock.  Thank you Jesus!

I'm going through a HUGE learning curve right now with my new tools but expect some lovely things here in the future.   And if any of you Mac users have any tips, I would really appreciate them!

Christmas Eve

Christmas Eve is here
My Bayberry Candle is lit
The candy canes are out
The table is set
A Southern snow has arrived
Now we're just watching for reindeer!

Merry Christmas to all,

Merry and Bright

Christmas is going by way too fast this year and I can't seem to slow it down. I've been busy preparing the house for a gathering of friends and family by doing things like cleaning out the refrigerator, shopping for last minute stocking stuffers, ironing table linens and catching up on laundry.  However, none of those really make for a pretty picture, so I'm sharing some of the things I've been savoring over the last few weeks in preparation for the big day.

I hope you're settling in for a lovely celebration and enjoying your favorite things.

Another handmade gift from a favorite friend.  By the way, I'm predicting this as THE hot color for Fall 2011.

Holiday Sugar High

This is what happens when you leave a couple of clever four year olds alone for five minutes. At least they were kind enough to put the wrappers in a bowl.

Let the holiday sugar highs begin!

Displaying Christmas Cards

I must have made some enemies in 2010 because I don't have near as many Christmas cards as previous years...yet...OR....maybe some of you are just behind a bit like I was! We'll go with the latter theory.

I adore having all my friends and family "with me" at Christmas time. I surround our floor to ceiling windows in the living room with Christmas cards, and for you over-achievers who get your cards out the day after Thanksgiving, you'll be happy to know that you get prime real estate right in the middle of the window frame, at eye level!

I save most photo cards each year because it's so fun to look back and see how people and families grow. However, I'm always at a loss on how to display such a large quantity of cards so I've settled for a wooden box. Clever, I know.

I've always loved how my sister displays her cards from years past.  She punches a small hole in each card and makes a massive photo garland.  She then drapes it around her dining room and kitchen windows.

How about you?  How do you display your Christmas cards from present or past?  Do you keep them every year?

Simple Teacher Gifts

Last week, I made these simple gifts for my son's teachers and the staff at his preschool.  I placed a bulk order for some savory, butter roasted pecans from The Golden Kernel Pecan Co., then divided them between these smaller mason jars.  The pecans are a nice break from the excess of baked goods during the holidays plus they travel well and take no time at all to prepare.

Trying to savor every moment this week!
